Deildartunguhver thermal spring is the largest thermal spring in Iceland. It provides 180 l/sec of 100°C hot water. Some of the water is harnessed for heating utilities in Akranes (64 km) and Borgarnes (34 km), and for farms along the way. A variety of hard fern (blechnun spicant) can be seen near the thermal spring, which does not grow anywhere else in Iceland. The thermal spring is protected. Greenhouse farming is extensive in Deildartunga as well as in other places in the neighborhood.

6. Jigokudani Monkey Park
Japan’s Jigokudani Monkey Park in Yamanouchi, Shimotakai District, Nagano Prefecture. This is part of the National Park K?gen Joshinetsu. Jigokudani name, which means “Valley of Hell”, is caused by steam and boiling water bubbles out of small cracks in the frozen ground, surrounded by steep cliffs and formidably cold and hostile forests.
It is famous for its large population of wild Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata), more commonly referred to as Snow Monkeys, who went to the valley in winter, foraging elsewhere in the national park during the months and warmer. Beginning in 1963, the monkeys come down from cliffs and forests to sit in the warm waters Onsen (hotsprings), and returned to the safety of the forest at night.

Mammoth is a large hill travertine that has been made more thousands of years as hot water from springs is cooled and precipitated calcium carbonate. Terrace Mountain at Mammoth Hot Springs is largest known carbonate-spring deposits in the world. The most famous features of the spring is the Minerva Terrace, a series of travertine terrace. Terrace has been deposited by the spring for many years, but due to a mild earthquake activity recently, the spring vent has been shifted, rendering the porch to dry.

Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park is the largest hot water in the United States, and the third largest in the world, beside them in New Zealand. It is located in Midway Geyser Basin. Bright colors of spring are the result of pigmented bacteria microbial mats that grow on the edge of the mineral-rich water. The bacteria produce colors ranging from green to red. Number of colors in the microbial mats depends on the ratio of chlorophyll to carotenoids. In the summer, the mats tend to be orange and red, while the in winter the mats are usually dark green. Central Pool is sterile because It’s very hot.
